Disparities in access to services and treatment outcomes are increasingly evident for individuals from historically underrepresented communities. A history of systemic racism and other inherent issues in health care discourage many people from seeking help. New mandates by regulators, including The Joint Commission's reducing health care disparities standards, reflect the urgency for diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging (DEIB) work. The National Association of Addiction Treatment Providers’ DEIB Best Practices Assessment Tool can help providers implement change. We will offer specific action steps to assess organizational DEIB needs, transform clinical care and operations and work toward reducing disparities in access, engagement and outcomes.
Learning Objectives:
Describe how the Stages of Change can be applied to the assessment of organizational needs and changes in DEIB best practices.
Identify action steps to improve patient and staff inclusivity and promote a sense of belonging.
Discuss how changes in clinical and operational practices can reduce disparities in access to care and treatment outcomes.
