Chief Executive Officer Highland Rivers Behavioral Health Dalton, Georgia
Diversion and access to services have become an increasing issue across the nation. Too often, individuals are taken into jails and emergency departments (EDs) where they are often not referred to appropriate levels of behavioral health care. Interventions provided through co-responder programming have been shown to not only lessen situations of crisis but also divert people away from ED and inpatient treatment. We will share an insider’s view of our three year effort to coordinate municipal and county systems, embed clinical resources in police and fire, and discuss the expansion of cross-county programming.
Learning Objectives:
Articulate how to successfully replicate a pilot program into urban and rural communities with differing aspects.
Identify strategies that help leverage and incorporate state, local and federal resources.
Employ co-responder strategies that reduce the reliance on jail systems, ED’s and higher end crisis services for individuals.
