Statewide Behavioral Health Workforce Coordinator Texas Health and Human Services Commission Austin, Texas
The behavioral health career pathway is not easy and can require students to seek financial support. To address the pathway gap, Health and Human Services can use funding from their Mental Health Block Grant (MHBG) to provide internship stipends for undergraduate and graduate level students who are receiving a bachelor’s and/or master’s degree in a behavioral health-related field and would like to be exposed to mental health and substance use services that local mental health authorities/local behavioral health authorities provide. In Texas, MHBG funding will pilot with select local authorities to provide students internship stipends.
Learning Objectives:
Increase internship stipend opportunities for students undergoing behavioral health studies in social work, education, psychology and sociology.
Evaluate the demand for more behavioral health providers by using creative solutions to address workforce retention and recruitment.
Restructure the pathway for behavioral health workers who are seeking licensure.
