Sade Neri is a 20-year-old Mexican woman who is currently pursuing a degree in Ethnic Studies at UC Berkeley. She has been involved in mental health advocacy since her high school years, working to promote peer-to-peer support programs for students struggling with mental health issues.
Sade's own experiences with mental health struggles inspired her to journey as a youth advocate for student mental health resources. She now explores how mental health intersects with the experiences of marginalized communities, such as migrant communities, Mexican women, and more.
Sade is recognized for her outstanding work in mental health advocacy. She is the student who authored AB 2124, a bill aimed at establishing peer-to-peer support programs in California schools which made its way last year to Governor Newsom’s desk. Her journey started from grassroots advocacy in her high school and eventually led her to the legislative level, where she organized a student-led campaign for mental health resources across California.
Sade's unwavering commitment to mental health advocacy, social justice, and equity serves as an inspiration to the youth and mental health professionals to continue advocating for the resources well deserved and needed in our communities today.
