Few experiences are as inhumane as the entry of a person with an opioid use disorder (OUD) into the corrections system. Once released, they face a mortality rate greater than 100 times that of their community. Telehealth holds great promise for scaled, flexible treatment to meet justice-involved individuals “where they are” and initiate care at critical moments. Oregon is the first state to codify this philosophy into law through historic drug decriminalization known as Measure 110. We will share learnings and insights to support stakeholders implementing services to justice-involved patients as dozens more states debate and design decriminalization policies.

Describe barriers to care of OUD in correctional settings.
Explain how a telehealth-based approach to OUD, together with certain roles and workflows, can successfully be implemented in corrections.
Determine next steps you can take to develop this treatment approach in places where you can partner with corrections.
