Project Director Greater Flint Health Coalition Flint, Michigan
Collaborative and innovative strategic approaches to prevent, treat and reduce harms associated with behavioral health and substance use disorders are vital to creating sustainable community level change. Genesee Health System and the Greater Flint Health Coalition Mental Health and Substance Use Task Force developed a community-wide strategy model to achieve this, which details an ever-evolving multi-sector, data-driven approach for physicians, law enforcement, schools and health care providers. We will discuss each sector's involvement in the development of the strategy and detail key initial and ongoing results.
Learning Objectives:
Define the unique conditions that led to Flint recording one of the highest opioid death rates in the state of Michigan.
Use community needs assessment data to develop a community-wide opioid strategy.
Attendees will be able to organize community partners and resources to implement multi-sector strategies addressing substance use disorder, behavioral health, and social determinants of health needs impacting populations.
