During the 30 months preceding the COVID-19 pandemic, emergency room visits for suicidality was about 5.8%; during the pandemic this increased by 55% and was even higher among adolescents. While evidence-based treatment is effective and available, many people do not receive an intervention in a health care setting. Approximately 45% of those who die by suicide every day have seen their primary care provider within 30 days prior to their death. We will provide an overview of current suicide statistics, discuss how Compass Health has implemented the Zero Suicide model of care at a CCBHC and FQHC and current resources available.
Learning Objectives:
Describe how the Zero Suicide model can be implemented in any health care system – not just behavior health, but primary care and dental clinics).
Identify, assess and manage risk factors for suicide.
Demonstrate the level of success once individuals are identified to be at risk for suicide when a comprehensive suicide care approach is implemented.
