Historically, Black and African American experience in America have been – and continues to be – characterized by trauma and violence that impacts the emotional and mental health of youth and adults. With the emergence of 988 and creating a crisis care system that is inclusive of the experiences of all, it is necessary to ensure historically harmed groups are engaged in building crisis care that is inclusive of their needs. Learn skills for working with Black boys/men in crisis and holistic approaches of effective collaborations to improve mental health resources, reduce barriers to access and address their mental health needs.

Learning Objectives:

Describe how mental health is compromised and impacted by both racism and sexism.
Demonstrate macro-level analysis of patriarchy and its impact on functioning of Black boys, men, transmen and trans-masculine people.
Define Black masculinity and disrupt/dismantle how we respond/support these bodies.
