Community Risk Reduction is often thought of in macro terms and broad strategies based on established guidelines and assessments. In many cases, this crosses over into Emergency Management particularly with respect to jurisdictions where one person is wearing many hats and responsible for both and more. Broad and focused risk assessments are key to understanding the risks and areas in need of direct action but often don’t fully address the day-to-day community risk issues outside of the disasters, big fires and common themes. How do we ensure that our efforts are focused on the right populations and areas and reaching those in greatest need? Learn how the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service is collaborating with civic departments, community organizations and vulnerable populations to ensure that a large array of day-to-day risks to the street level communities are addressed.
Learning Objectives:
Understand the street level, day to day risks within CRR and how to address these with targeted vulnerable populations.
Appreciate the need for broad approach and collaboration with various stakeholders to address issues and learn how one agency is actioning this.
