Alvaro Lucioni, MD, is Program Director for Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship at Virginia Mason Franciscan Health. He received his B.A. and M.D. at University of Chicago and completed his urologic residency at the University of Chicago Medical Center followed by a Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery (FPMRS) fellowship at Virginia Mason Medical Center. He then joined the faculty at Virginia Mason Franciscan Health in 2010 where he has a busy practice dedicated to male and female reconstruction, including urinary diversion in patients with advanced bladder cancer and neurological conditions. He is also a Clinical Professor at the University of Washington in Seattle.
Beyond his dedication to clinical medicine and research, Dr. Lucioni is passionate about education of patients and future urologists. As soon as he graduated from his fellowship Dr. Lucioni became Associate Program Director of the FPMRS fellowship and helped with its transition to ACGME accreditation. Dr. Lucioni has since become the Program Director of the fellowship and continues to work closely with the Graduate Medical Education office in improving the educational experience of all residents and fellows at Virginia Mason. Dr. Lucioni has authored more than 30 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters on topics related to urinary incontinence and pelvic prolapse and has been invited faculty on multiple national meetings. He is currently a member of the COE committee at the National Association for Continence. He also serves in various leadership positions at Virginia Mason FranciscannHealth, including Physician Champion for catheter associated UTI prevention, Hospital Acquired Infections Task Force, and member of the Infection Prevention committee.
