Dr. Ashish M. Kamat is an Endowed Professor of Urologic Oncology (Surgery) and Cancer Research at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. He is the founding President and CEO of the International Bladder Cancer Group (IBCG) and serves as Associate Cancer Center Director at the Reliance Foundation Hospital in Mumbai. He has led numerous research efforts and clinical trials, resulting in over 650 publications in prestigious journals, in addition to textbooks and news articles.
Dr. Kamat's international impact is extensive, with leadership roles in organizations like the IBCG, the International Bladder Cancer Network (IBCN), and the Innovators Committee of the Société Internationale d'Urologie (SIU). He is an active member of several scientific committees dedicated to GU cancer research and education, including the AUA, SUO, ASCO, SITC and SIU. He has served on the boards of these organizations and has been involved in planning national and international meetings.
In addition to his research and leadership roles, Dr. Kamat is dedicated to education. He served as Fellowship Director at MD Anderson from 2005 to 2016 and continues to mentor fellows, residents, and international visiting scientist and active mentor on the AUA USMSART program. He is on the editorial board of leading journals including European Urology Oncology and UroToday Bladder Cancer Center of Excellence.
Dr. Kamat is also involved in patient advocacy efforts and has received the Compassionate Doctor Award from patient groups. He has served on the board of the Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network (BCAN) and Inaugral Chair of World Bladder Cancer Patient Coalition (WPBPC). To recognize his numerous achievements, the "Wayne B. Duddlesten, Sr. Professorship in Honor of Dr. Ashish Kamat" endowment was created in 2016 to support cancer research and education at MD Anderson.
