Caring for IBD is a team sport. The indications for and optimal timing of surgery are predicated on a thorough understanding of the natural history of Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, and what is and is not likely to be achieved with medical therapy. Optimal outcomes are achieved by thoughtful and collaborative partnerships between colorectal surgeons, gastroenterologists, and their patients. This panel will explore a variety of multidisciplinary issues such as first operations for terminal ileal Crohn’s disease, approach to IBD-associated dysplasia, and management principles for the failing pelvic pouch.
