Colorectal Cancer incidence rates among adults younger than age 50 continue to rise annually since 1992. As this alarming trend emerges among our patient populations, many questions and concerns exist. This symposium will provide an up-to-date overview of the scope of the problem and review the special considerations in genetics, tumor behavior/biology, and treatment in this unique and growing subset of colorectal cancer patients.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

Describe the alarming incidence and epidemiology of young-onset colorectal cancer (YOCRC) and recognize the preoperative considerations unique to patients with YOCRC.
Recognize the preoperative considerations unique to patients with YOCRC. Improving the identification and surveillance of YOCRS via screening and surveillance.
Compare and contrast the behavior of YOCRC compared to CRS among adults age 50 + years. Explain how physicians and surgeons can improve the experience of young adult patients diagnosed with CRC.
