Diverticulitis is an increasingly global disease with high morbidity and cost of care. Evolving data on the management of diverticulitis has added depth to our understanding of diverticular disease while also adding to the complexity of decision-making. This symposium will provide an overview of evidence-based, patient-centered strategies to address common scenarios in the management of complex diverticulitis.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

Describe the impact of diverticulitis risk factors and preventative strategies on surgical decision making.
Define considerations for who may benefit from surgery after a diverticular abscess.
Explain intra-operative decision making for creation of a primary anastomosis with or without proximal diversion in diverticulitis.
