This symposium will provide an overview of the perioperative strategies to mitigate the risk of anastomotic complications. We will provide an expert perspective of preoperative and intraoperative strategies for reoperation to address anastomotic complications and review the impact of the microbiome on the anastomosis.

Recognize the risk factors for anastomotic complications, mitigation of risk, and early detection of leaks and review the efficacy of nonoperative and novel approaches to anastomotic complications.
Review the preoperative assessment and planning for surgical management of anastomotic complications and gain expert knowledge of intraoperative strategies to mitigate risk and navigate the re-operative pelvis.
Explain the impact of the microbiome with regards to anastomotic complications.
