There are many situations where a surgical specialist may be called upon to “take a look” at something. These scenarios may take place in any number of clinical settings including the operating room. Often, a colorectal surgeon’s training makes the individual uniquely qualified to help with complex patient cases especially when dealing with the pelvis. However, there are also circumstances where the qualified colorectal surgeon may also require the surgical expertise of our colleagues which may include urology, gynecology, or vascular surgery. This symposium will delve into the complex relationships that surgeons may have with each other when trying to optimally take care of our patients. We will provide strategies on how to provide our expertise safely and effectively to others and how to work with other consultants. We hope to provide our audience with some case scenarios which we likely will all be familiar with and different ways to deal with these situations. In addition, we wish to discuss some of the medicolegal implications that could occur in these scenarios.
