Laparoscopic Ventral Rectopexy Surgery Workshop Sponsored by Cook Biotech - SOLD OUT
Saturday, June 3, 2023
7:00 AM – 12:00 PM PT
Location: Room 2B (Seattle Convention Center)
This workshop is full. Registration is required, and limited space is available.
Background Ventral Rectopexy (VR) is the current gold standard for the treatment of rectal prolapse. In addition to correcting full-thickness rectal prolapse, VR can be used to treat rectoceles, enteroceles, and internal rectal prolapse and can also be combined with vaginal prolapse procedures in patients with pelvic floor defects. VR is technically demanding and requires a complete ventral dissection of the rectovaginal septum (rectovesical in men) down to the pelvic floor. Mesh positioning and suturing must be done within a confined space. Poor technique minimizes functional benefits and increases the risk for complications or recurrence. The aim of this training course is to teach attendees the procedural steps of VR with biologic graft placement in a small, intimate learning environment.
Overview This immersive experience exposes attendees to a full morning of hands-on cadaveric dissection in an intimate learning environment. Our 4 faculty members will demonstrate the laparoscopic ventral rectopexy procedure with biologic graft placement using recorded video and will then walk attendees through their own cadaver dissection in a step-by-step manner allowing practical exposure to the techniques for all participants.
For maximal learning, attendees should have a keen interest in laparoscopic ventral rectopexy and already have the laparoscopic skills necessary to operate in a small, confined space. Some previous exposure to laparoscopic ventral rectopexy procedures is helpful and encouraged. We will tailor the practical portion of the course to the needs and experiences of the attendees, but do not intend the course to teach basic laparoscopic skills.
Attendees will be provided a certificate of attendance for the course that notes their participation in the event.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
Recognize the indications for performing a ventral rectopexy repair.
Discuss the surgical risks associated with ventral rectopexy and the use of mesh/graft materials.
Explain the technical steps involved in ventral rectopexy.
Perform the laparoscopic ventral rectopexy procedure with biologic graft placement.
