Barbara Roman, MT(ASCP), CIC is the Director of Epidemiology at Nationwide Children’s Hospital (NCH). She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology at the Ohio State University, and is currently working on her Master of Business Administration-Healthcare. She has worked at NCH for over 35 years, having started in the Microbiology Lab before joining the Infection Prevention team. As director, she is responsible for developing, organizing, implementing, and evaluating all aspects of the health care system infection prevention, surveillance, investigation, and control programs and managing the core institutional resources devoted to improving infection prevention and achieving NCH’s vision of being the safest hospital. She also partners with other leaders to shape strategy driving advancements in infection surveillance and prevention. She has served in various positions on her local APIC Board, and is currently President-Elect. She is also a member of the national APIC Member Services Committee.
