Lewis is certified in both industrial hygiene and infection control. He is director for environmental standards with Lee Health System in Fort Myers, FL. His primary focus is environmental infection control including healthcare construction, water hygiene and quality, ventilation, cleaning, and disinfection. He wrote the current construction and renovation chapter for the APIC Text Online and chapters for the APIC Infection Prevention Manual for Construction and Renovation. He is a past member of the APIC Practice Guidance Committee, a Fellow of APIC, and a member and past Chair of the American Industrial Hygiene Association Healthcare Working Group. He has served on the ASHRAE committees 188 Legionellosis: Risk Management for Building Water Systems, and 514 Risk Management for Building Water Systems: Physical, Chemical and Microbial Hazards. He was on the Steering Committee for the FGI Emergency Conditions guide, and a member of the FGI 2022 and 2026 Health Guidelines Revision Committees.
