3102-B - Supply Chain Collaboration: It's Not Just During Crisis

Session Description: Supply chain management plays a critical role in patient and staff safety in a healthcare environment. Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has exposed the need for infection preventionists (IP) to partner with their facility supply chain departments on a routine basis to prevent supply shortages, ensure items provide appropriate protection, and ensure items are appropriate for use in healthcare.

This session will educate IPs on opportunities they have to collaborate with their facility supply chain department including product evaluation, assessment of material compatibility with disinfectants, and standardization of supplies. This session will also cover evidence based and nationally recognized resources that IPs should utilize during their collaboration with their supply chain department including The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, Food and Drug Administration, Environmental Protection Agency, and American Society for Testing and Materials. This session will be beneficial for IPs at all career stages and will highlight the need for collaboration with the supply chain department to ensure staff and patient safety.
