Session Description: Infection Preventionists are expected to be a master of all trades but don’t always have the resources and training needed. One of the important trades an Infection Preventionist should have in their pocket is Process Improvement. Process Improvement is a specialized field that utilizes various tools to strategically identify the root of the problem, highlight systematic issues (rather than people issues), implement change, and monitor for sustainment. These tools include A3s, Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA), Kaizen newspapers, fishbone diagrams, and process mapping. This workshop will meet participants where they are with their knowledge of process improvement. Participants will leave the session with not only an understanding of the tools and a newfound respect for collaboration and sticky notes, they will also gain hands-on experience with the provided materials and understand real-world examples of how to utilize the tools. Participants are asked to come with one or two examples of gaps at their facility that they would be willing to share and work through as a team.

Understand the importance of collaboration with team members at all levels to drive improvement.
Utilize process improvement tools to lead multidisciplinary teams to address facility specific gaps.
