Kimberly Seals Allers is an award-winning journalist, author and internationally recognized advocate for maternal and infant health. She builds on more than a decade of experience leading on-the-ground, community-partnered projects in New Orleans, Birmingham, Detroit, and Philadelphia, and valued experience using communication and storytelling as tools for equity including serving as the former director of the Maternal & Child Health Communication Collective, funded by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation. In 2014 she received a three-year, $500,000 grant from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation to create a replicable model for the First Food Friendly Communities Initiative (3FCI) to transform communities that lack accessible resources for mothers to breastfeed into more supportive environments. Kimberly is also the founder of Irth, the first of its kind Yelp-like review and rating app for Black and brown women and birthing people and the creator and co-founder of Black Breastfeeding Week.
