Child & Family Specialist
The WATCH Coalition
Elianny Herrera Montas is the Child & Family Specialist at The WATCH Coalition, an anti-racist community organization in Woonsocket, Rhode Island. Having a relative with undiagnosed mental illness made her curious about mental conditions since her childhood. After developing Rheumatic Fever that required her to relearn daily activities like walking and speaking, she became even more fascinated with the power of the brain. These events sparked a lifelong interest in understanding how the mind can be shaped by and can influence the choices and behaviours of individuals. She attended the Rhode Island Nurses Institute Middle College, where she earned her Certified Nursing Assistant license. She went on to study Psychology and Human & Family Development at University of Rhode Island. At The WATCH Coalition, she leads a mentoring program for Woonsocket youth and children of color. Her goal is to become a social worker to help reduce the stigma against mental illness in the Latinx population.
