Disability & Mental Health Advocate
The Youth Voice Amplified Committee Member
Virginia Beach, VA
Shannon O’Hara Wiora was diagnosed with Autism when she was a year old. During the early part of her childhood, she could not speak and had to undergo speech therapy. She grew up in a large neurodivergent family where her parents and six brothers and sisters were diagnosed with Autism. Therefore, Shannon experienced various discrimination and mental health issues she and her family had to undergo. These experiences developed her passion for helping promote acceptance of young adults and children with disabilities and advocating mental health awareness in the disability community. She has served on multiple national youth boards for organizations such as Family Voices’ Youth of Self-Advocates (YASA) and AMCHP’s Youth Voice Amplified Committee.
