Dr. Dane De Silva is an epidemiologist with expertise in Maternal and Child Health (MCH). He is the MCH Lead Epidemiologist and the MCH Epidemiology & Evaluation Unit Supervisor at the Virginia Department of Health, Office of Family Health Services. Born and raised in Vancouver, BC, he received a Bachelor's in Medical Lab Sciences and a Master's in Public Health from the University of British Columbia. During this time, he worked with the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at BC Women’s Hospital as a National Coordinator for a knowledge translation project to implement clinical practice guidelines in maternity hospitals across Canada. After this project ended, he moved to the US where he pursued his PhD in Maternal and Child Health at the University of Maryland, School of Public Health. Dr. De Silva is an experienced population-health researcher rooted in the life course framework, and his research interests include birth outcomes, reproductive health, and infant and child mortality.
