Dr. Shirley Lewis received her dental degree from CODS, KMC, Manipal, India, pediatric dental residency and master’s in dental public health from Boston University, Boston, MA, and fellowship in forensic odontology at the University of Texas Health Science Center, San Antonio, TX.
Dr. Lewis joined the Public Health Sciences department at Texas A & M University School of Dentistry (TAMU SOD), Dallas, TX as a Clinical Assistant Professor in 2010. In 2019, she joined the department of Comprehensive Dentistry.
Her professional career includes:
- Teaching clinical and forensic odontology, clinical dentistry, dental public health, health policy, and directive studies courses at TAMU SOD and TAMU School of Medicine
- Student and graduate level research
- Doctoral and postdoctoral committees at the college, and university level
- Involvement in diversity and inclusion committees
- Director of the International Dental Summer Student Enrichment Program
- Pro bono work as a forensic odontologist for the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s office in the Dallas-Fort-Worth metropolitan area
- Public health and forensic dental consultant
- Volunteer in local communities, health fairs and the Association of Forensic Odontology For Human Rights
- Member of university, national and international groups and organizations
- Previously worked as a dental consultant along with promotoras in El Paso, TX as well as a pediatric and public health dentist at a federally qualified health center in Boston, MA.
