Professor
University of Utah
My name is Aaron Fogelson and I am Professor of Mathematics and Adjunct Professor of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Utah in Salt
Lake City, Utah in the USA. I have been developing mathemmatical models of different aspects of thrombosis and hemostasis for over 40 years with an emphasis on the influence of flow on these processes. With my students and postdocs, I have done work on platelet thrombus formation on both the scale of microfluidic devices and that of coronary arteries, work on the biochemistry of the tissue factor pathway of coagulation in conjunction with platelet deposition following vascular injury, modeling the initiation of venous thrombosis under very slow flow situations, modeling fibrin polymerization, and modeling fibrinolysis. In addition to developing models of these processes, my group also develops computational methods for solving the models' equations and thereby simulating the processes we are modeling.
