Thomas Renné is Professor of Clinical Chemistry and Director of Institute at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf, Germany.
Professor Renné graduated from the University of Mainz, Germany, in 2001, completing his residency in Clinical Chemistry at the Würzburg University Hospital, Germany, in 2008. He subsequently became Professor of Clinical Chemistry and Coagulation Research at the Karolinska Institute, Sweden before moving back to Germany 2013 to become the director of the Institute of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine at the University Medical Center Hamburg (UKE) that is a leading diagnostic and experimental laboratory in Northern Europe. His research interests include: angioedema, biomarkers, the plasma contact system, clinical and experimental thrombosis and haemostasis, laboratory medicine, inflammation, vascular medicine, cytoskeleton, mouse models, and imaging: Professor Renné has published over 170 original articles including Cell, Science, Nature, NEJM, JEM, JCI, Immunity, Blood and Science translational Medicine specialising on the crosstalk of coagulation and inflammation, with a predominant focus on the factor XII-mediated contact system and its activator polyphosphate in thrombosis and inflammation.
