Jerry Carlson, AHIP, has been the Medical Librarian for Poudre Valley Hospital (Fort Collins, CO) since 1989, providing for its knowledge needs through its growth into Poudre Valley Health System and into its alliance with three other hospital systems to form UCHealth. He totally virtualized his library in 2012, freeing him to round at UCHealth's more northerly hospitals 2-3 days a week and work from an offsite office or from home on the other days. He authored the "Solo Librarians" chapter of the Medical Library Association Guide to Managing Health Care Libraries (2nd ed., 2011) and co-edits the "Specialty of the House" column in the Journal of Hospital Librarianship.
