Kate Huang is a PhD Candidate in Experimental Medicine at the University of British Columbia and the Centre for Heart Lung Innovation in Vancouver, Canada. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology from the University of British Columbia and the British Columbia Institute of Technology.
Kate has a passion for researching genetic risk factors of cardiovascular diseases. Her current work focuses on investigating the effects of genetic mutations associated with heart rhythm disorders, such as those in the titin gene, at a cellular level using patient induced pluripotent stem cell-derived atrial and ventricular heart cell models as well as gene-editing with CRISPR. Kate is also studying the impact of genetic factors on disease risk stratification and patient outcomes at a population level using biobank cohort data. These studies will help establish platforms for examining cell type-specific effects of genetic mutations and provide insights on the genetic underpinnings of heart rhythm disorders.
Kate is a member of the Centre for Heart Lung Innovation Trainee Association and is a recipient of the CIHR Canada Graduate Scholarships Doctoral Award.
