Presentation Description: The need for improved mental health support within our communication centers is clear, but it can be challenging to make effective improvements with limited resources. In this session, Erin Yeung, Public Safety Dispatch Supervisor, and Shannon Mead, Marriage and Family Therapist, will outline several actionable and achievable strategies that you can use to support your own personal wellâ€being, as well as those you work alongside and manage. In addition to practical considerations about scheduling and environment, participants will leave with tangible steps to take towards creating a safe and supportive team culture.
Learning Objectives:
Learners will be able to identify the areas in their professional and personal lives where they may be experiencing mental health challenges and their causes. For example, excessive mandatory overtime may be causing them to be irritable and is affecting their work performance and their relationships at home.
Learners will be able to identify small, actionable changes that they can implement in their own lives and/or in their organization to improve overall emotional and mental well-being. Participants will have a roadmap to take back with them to help deploy the desired changes, as well as data to support their message when advocating for change.
Learners will be able to identify what mental health resources are available to them in their area and how they can be used to get the best outcome. Participants will also be challenged to think outside of the "normal mental health box" to look for unique resources that may be even more effective for the individual and organization.
