STEAM Equity: Gender Equitable STEAM Programming

Gender equity and cultural responsiveness are at the heart of an ongoing national project to offer STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) programming and exhibitions for rural community members, especially often-underreached Latinx populations. Join the STAR Library Network, ALA, and the Emmy award-winning SciGirls television show as we explore the importance of gender equitable programs where girls can develop positive STEAM identities. Be part of the change in closing the gender gap by offering empowering programs that strengthen girls’ interest and confidence in STEAM. You will learn strategies that use the latest research in engaging girls in science learning, participate in interactive STEAM activities geared for tweens, and explore how to design culturally responsive exhibitions for the library setting. You will leave this session with new facilitation strategies, STEAM activities, and supporting resources.
