Bristol Myers Squibb, New Jersey, United States
Joe Baldick, PhD., is an Associate Director in the Leads Discovery and Optimization Department at Bristol Myers Squibb in Princeton, NJ. He leads a group that conducts cross-therapeutic area high throughput screening and hit-to-lead optimization. He received his Ph.D. in biochemistry from Johns Hopkins University, focusing on vaccinia virus gene regulation. Joe then completed his post-doctoral studies at Princeton University, studying human cytomegalovirus structural proteins. He began his drug discovery career at Wyeth Pharmaceuticals developing high throughput screening assays for inhibitors of hepatitis C and human cytomegalovirus. After five years, Joe moved to Bristol Myers Squibb, leading small molecule antiviral discovery programs for hepatitis B and hepatitis C, and was part of the team that led to the approval of Baraclude®. In his current role, Joe’s team conducts a variety of target-based and phenotypic high throughput screens, including those designed to identify small molecule protein homeostasis modulators.
