Cognitive sensing has become a standard practice in the government, academia, and industry for the purposes of understanding how changes in cognitive activity influence medical and non-medical human performance factors. As this focus area evolved, technology has advanced to allow real-time sensing and algorithm development to assist with data driven decision-making. Currently, cognitive sensing has progressed to provide such capability in highly dynamic environments such as air, space, and austere missions. In addition, such technology enables remote monitoring of neurologically deficient patient recovery and athletic performance monitoring. As we move toward cognitive sensing with high mobility, materials advances become a significant factor to allow for long-term wear, comfort, reduced motion artifact, and improved signal quality. Smart MedTech Cognitive Sensing Technologies for Human Performance Monitoring will discuss wearable systems with advanced materials for real-time cognitive sensing in dynamic environments.
