Lead Scientist

NIRSense’s Lead Scientist, Dr. Thibault Roumengous, has research experience in human performance and neuromuscular fatigue and rehabilitation, utilizing eight different brain/neural activity measurement and stimulation technologies, including TMS, fNIRS, and EEG. Dr. Roumengous is a French citizen who earned two M.S. degrees performing scientific research at Aix-Marseille University and the University of Texas at Austin. Recently, he earned a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering at Virginia Commonwealth University where he led the development of noninvasive ways to measure neuromuscular function in patients with tetraplegia. Dr. Roumengous has supported work at NIRSense for two years, where he leads the signal processing framework and algorithms development, experimental design, data collection, and analyses of collaborative research projects, including cognitive workload assessments with DOD AFSOC. Dr. Roumengous currently serves as PI on additional development efforts supporting extended applications of NIRSense’s ruggedized cerebral oximetry, including the development of a novel, multimodal cerebral recording/stimulating wearable device.
