Projects Manager - Construction & Manufacturing Products ArcelorMittal Global R&D East Chicago, Indiana, United States
This poster will illustrate inhouse and independent research which has shown ArcelorMittal’s Magnelis (Zinc Aluminum Magnesium) metallic coated steels offer better corrosion protect/longer service life and better manufacturability than galvanized steels for solar mounting structures along with a reduced environmental footprint than stainless steel or aluminum.
Compared to galvanized steels, Magnelis coated steels benefits include: • Exceptional corrosion protection (sacrificial & barrier) even in aggressive environments (chloride, ammonia, alkaline, soils, wet concrete) • Requires less coating mass (2 to 3 times less) while achieving equivalent/better corrosion performance or at the same coating thickness offers 2 to 3 times the service life. • Improved cut-edge protection/self-healing. • Environmentally friendly with less zinc runoff, less usage of natural resources, and 100% recyclable. • Improved manufacturing performance (drawing, rolling, bending plus less buildup on tooling). • Similar weldability with better protection of weld zone. • Alternative to heavy coating galvanized and other metals.
Magnelis can be used for the fabrication of racks, rails, framing, posts, tubes, mounting brackets, electrical cabinets, cable trays, cable brackets, and transmission towers used for fixed ground, trackers, rooftop, and floating solar panel installations. Plus, future retrofitting potential of solar installations with newest PV panels using the initial mounting structure (without replacement).
Target Audience is designers, manufacturers, installers, and owners of solar installations.
