Rich Clausius is a Project Manager in the Construction & Manufacturing Products (CMP) Group at ArcelorMittal’s Global R&D Center in East Chicago, Indiana. With over 37 years in the steel industry, Rich has worked for National Steel, US Steel, and now at ArcelorMittal; in R&D, Operations Technology, Operations, Customer Technical Service, and Product Application.
Most of his early career focused on the production, product application and customer support of steels for the Packaging/Container Market; and expanded into product application for the Appliance Market along with mill and customer process improvement. During the last 16 years, he has worked at ArcelorMittal’s East Chicago R&D Center where he works in the CMP Group where he provides product application and co-engineering support to Construction customers, and the Coatings & Surface Technology (CST) Group where he oversees the East Chicago Corrosion Lab & Outdoor Exposure Site and supports projects on metallic coatings including Galvanize and Zinc Aluminum Magnesium (ZnAlMg) coatings such as Magnelis.
Rich is also the North American R&D liaison for Global R&D Projects related to ArcelorMittal’s ZnAlMg Coatings and has spent the last 12 years working with ZnAlMg coatings to determine North American market and production potential, corrosion performance, and to promote their use for the Industrial, Automotive, and Energy Market applications; and participates in industry corrosion teams/projects.
Rich has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology, is a certified Electroplater/Surface Finisher by AESF, an inductee of the Society of Innovators at Purdue Northwest, and received the Auto/Steel Partnership’s (A/SP’s) “Individual Award of Excellence†for his work with the A/SP Corrosion Team.
