The goal of this career guidance session is to discuss the important topic of career transitions between academia, industry, and health agencies. While the educational qualifications and research skillset gained with education in pharmaceutical and biomedical sciences prepares scientists for entry level jobs, certain on-job skills help them navigate their career through different job settings. This session will focus on three such job settings, namely academia, biopharmaceutical industry, and health agency (e.g. FDA, CDC, EMA). This one-hour session focuses on helping scientists develop leadership and management skills. The session will be lead by speakers who have successfully transitioned between academia to industry or health and regulatory agency. After the short presentations, panelists will engage with participants in discussion on this important topic and address questions from attendees.

Learning Objectives:

Prepare for roles in industry/academia/regulatory agency after transitioning from an alternate career.
Understand on-job skills acquired in each of these areas and how they can be successfully applied to next role or transition.
Appreciate challenges to expect from career transitions and be prepared to deal with them.
Be aware of training opportuniites to faciliate career transitions.
