Dr. Deborah Goldberg is a Senior Lecturer and the Associate Chair for Strategic Initiatives in the Department of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering at the University of Maryland, College Park. After completing her BS in chemical enginnering and her PhD in bioengineering, she worked as a biopharmaceutical development scientist at MedImmune (now AstraZeneca) for six years. At MedImmune, Dr. Goldberg served on cross-functional project teams for multiple early and mid-stage clinical programs, completing formulation development, regulatory filings, and drug product manufacturing technology transfer. In 2016, she joined the University of Maryland as a lecturer and has taught seven different courses, including development of an elective course focused on biopharmaceutical process development. Dr. Goldberg also developed an online training course "Biopharmaceutical Manufacturing Basics e-Learning Library," funded by NIIMBL, in collaboration with Merck. Dr. Goldberg advises undergraduate students, with a special emphasis on preparation for placement in industry and graduate school. Dr. Goldberg conducts quantitative and qualitative pedagogical research to evaluate the success of her teaching innovations. In her role as the Chemical Engineering Associate Chair for Strategic Initiatives, Dr. Goldberg works to enhance the experience of all departmental constituents with a special focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion.
