To increase availability of mRNA therapeutics and vaccines to the global population, it is essential to identify formulation and delivery approaches that can be used in regions without ultra-low temperature cold chain. Microneedle patches provide the opportunity to combine a thermostable formulation with a minimally invasive administration. The microneedles only penetrate the surface layers of the skin so can be administered without requiring an additional needle, reducing the patient pain and the medical waste.
Learning Objectives:
Understand how microneedles can be used for drug delivery
Understand how microneedles can combine with thermostable RNA formulations
Identify potential opportunities for the microneedles within the pharmaceutical pipeline
