This course is directed towards the general practitioner, although it can serve as a refresher for the dental specialist. It provides a review of the things a dentist needs to know about our patients’ often very complex medical histories. This is a case-based review and starts with the most significant systems first (cardiovascular and respiratory). The goal of the course is for the participant to no longer be intimidated by medically more complex patients. Medical emergency management is discussed but the emphasis is upon avoidance through preparation.
Learning Objectives:
Participants will be able to risk stratify complex medical histories.
Participants will be able to recognize potential problems associated with cardiovascular diseases such as coronary artery disease, hypertension, and congestive heart failure.
Participants will be able to better understand and manage patients with various coagulopathies.
Participants will be able to better understand and manage diabetic patients.
Participants will be able to better understand and manage patients with cancer.
