Updates in Diagnosis & Treatment of Keratoconus

Keratoconus is a condition that is often not identified until it becomes more advanced. This session will provide an overview of keratoconus and discuss pearls for identifying keratoconus early. The session will also cover treatments for keratoconus, including tools for helping patients stop eye rubbing, as well as crosslinking to strengthen the cornea. The goals of helping keratoconus stabilize their cornea and avoid corneal transplants will be elaborated on. There are a number of misunderstandings in and around crosslinking. The lecture will cover corneal thickness, optimal locations for centering the light, as well as intraoperative and postoperative therapies to help speed epithelial healing.
