Shannon Mace has over 10 years of multidisciplinary experience working for and with government agencies, nonprofit organizations and health care providers to improve population health and reduce disparities by addressing root causes of poor health, aligning systems and resources, and implementing best practices. Currently, Shannon serves as a senior advisor of practice improvement for the National Council for Mental Wellbeing where she provides strategic leadership and consultation related to project direction and implementation, the development of training and technical assistance tools and the development of publications and presentations. Her areas of focus include improving outcomes for individuals who are justice-involved, health law and compliance, medication-assisted treatment, trauma-informed care and addressing social determinants of health.
In addition to her role at the National Council, Mace is a co-founder and public health law consultant for Health, Education and Legal Assistance Project: A Medical-Legal Partnership (HELP: MLP) where she assisted in creating a cross-sector collaboration that integrates civil legal aid attorneys into maternal and child health programs in Pennsylvania to reduce disparities in maternal health, infant mortality, and birth outcomes. Previously, she was the director of policy and planning for the Baltimore City Health Department where she oversaw the department’s efforts to implement a health in all policies strategy by strategically aligning resources and interests across city stakeholders and agencies. Additional prior roles including director of policy implementation at Community Oriented Correctional Health Services and health reform and health equity manager for the Philadelphia Department of Behavioral Health and Intellectual disAbility Services (DBHIDS). She is licensed to practice law in Pennsylvania.
