When emergency responders encounter individuals with mental health or substance use challenges, they have no choice but to deliver them to hospital emergency rooms or jail. Nationally we have seen greater clinical outcomes with the addition of crisis observation and stabilization centers which seek to divert individuals into treatment. This presentation will share lessons learned and innovative programs that successfully used such tactics to create and maximize options for community response for individuals experiencing a behavioral health crisis and decrease volume for hospitals and first responders.
