It is critical that schools expand their diversity initiatives and programming to include diversity of brain functions, otherwise known as neurodiversity. Cultivating a neurodiverse school community, which includes students, faculty and staff, is essential to building creative, innovative and inclusive environments while reducing stigma. We will explore the impacts of neurodiverse individuals on school communities and discuss strategies for implementing and fostering initiatives related to hiring, enrollment and school culture.
Learning Objectives:
Participants will be able to define neurodiversity. Participants will recognize why neurodiverse populations are an asset to their school and communities, and will come away with tips and strategies on how to promote a culture of inclusivity.
