Short description: This session highlights strategies to stretch student thinking, promote deep learning, and provide layers of challenge for gifted students. The strategies are representative of evidence-based practices that build schema, academic language, and scaffolds within curriculum to intentionally foster gifts and talents of students from underrepresented groups. Leave with concrete examples to support and extend student thinking across content areas.
Learning Outcomes: Participants will:
Learn and practice instructional strategies/models of inquiry for critical, creative, and analytical thinking among various content areas
Reflect on how strategies can be used to "spot" talent and cultivate student strength
Examine how strategies build schema and support the development of academic language to bridge equitable access to advanced programming
