Spongy moth (Lymantria dispar dispar) is a species that can cause widespread natural and urban forest defoliation. While many management tactics are known to reduce spongy moth populations, less work has been done investigating applications of pre-emergent insecticides. Golden Pest Spray Oil is a soybean oil based product that is labeled for spongy moth egg masses to prevent emergence. In this presentation, we will discuss a range of laboratory and field experiments from Massachusetts, New York and Wisconsin investigating the pre-emergent efficacy of this product compared against a range of other products and rates.
