Extension Agent II University of Tennessee Clinton, Tennessee
Many graduates soon after gaining their degree in entomology are faced with a plethora of decisions; do I pursue a career in industry, research, teaching, outreach? But, we all know just how diverse the field of entomology can be and how we have all focused on one specialty or another. Extension professionals are tasked with providing research-based information to a diverse set of clients where no two days are alike. And more specifically related to entomology, these questions can range from simple insect identification to pesticide recommendations to beekeeping management decisions. However, not all client interactions will relate to entomology as a county-based extension agent. Whether you consult with a large-scale farmer or a smaller-scale home gardener, each decision requires expertise towards a real-life solution. This presentation will provide an overview of entomology in extension that will excite any lifelong learner and how you can apply your graduate research to pave the way towards a fulfilling career in extension.
