Tadpole shrimp is a pest of seedling rice that can affect the establishment of plants soon after seeding. A field study was conducted to determine the stages of development when seedlings can be affected by tadpole shrimp and the size of tadpole shrimp that can injure rice. Rice was seeded in staggered dates into plots known to be infested with tadpole shrimp. The study showed that tadpole shrimp does not injure rice once seedlings have a well developed prophyll or spike and the radicle is well developed and in the soil. Implications for monitoring and control will be discussed.
