Wireworms are a serious agricultural pest whose control is generally addressed with synthetic pesticides. However, there are none registered for vegetable growers in Canada, and both potato and vegetable growers are increasingly interested in biologicals. Groundwork research has been conducted that provides a path forward for introducing entomopathogens as active ingredients for controlling wireworms. Efficacy data using traditional application patterns demonstrate that microbials are ready for transition into IPM systems. More aspirational application methods and management systems will also be presented.
